DEFRA dysfunction

DEFRA: Out of their depth, out of ideas and out of excuses.

  • Not a single cattery or kennel owner goes into animal boarding because they dreamed of being a bureaucrat.
  • Being a bureaucrat means never having to be responsible, never having to be productive, not having to understand where profits come from and never have to wonder what efficiency means.
  • DEFRA's productivity is measured by the amount of paperwork it creates, but in our industry, paperwork provides no increase in efficiency, it's unproductive and reduces profitability.
  • All the paperwork anyone in this industry needs is a simple permanent paper record and a simple diary for bookings - anything beyond that is personal choice and will depend on available time, necessity, staffing numbers and cattery size.
  • Paperwork doesn't improve cat welfare and our businesses all ran perfectly well before the bureaucrats arrived to screw everything up.
  • The only thing we've learned from the reguations is that DEFRA need to stay out of other people's businesses until they fix their own.
