Isolation rooms save lives

One of the most useful pre-2019 regulations we had was that all catteries have to be built with a separate isolation room. But in 2019 the DEFRA clowns replaced this with a mandated order to partner with a veterinary practice.

DEFRA-rake

  • Our iso room is useful in any emergency. We use our iso room half a dozen times a year and rarely if ever does our decision to isolate lead to a veterinary visit.
  • When this regulation was introduced there were half a dozen independant vets in our area - But now that industry has been targetted by a corporate hedge fund buyout behind the Medivet brand that overnight reduced veterinary practices to money-making machines for their investors - Medivet provide everything from medical supplies, food and insurance and top this grift up with exorbitant prices for medical care - vets are now an industry that is run only for shareholders - It was bad enough when vets reflected everything bad about the American model of independent health providers, but now they're profit-driven and ethically challenged, the entire industry needs it's royal patronage revoked.

Our sector shouldn't support or be forced into a relationship with any vet and we shouldn't be forced to go through the process to find a more responsible vet every time one sells out to Medivet. DEFRA need to withdraw the changes to the legislation, because once again, their need to regulate everything backfired, unintended consequences that were already known and every time the clownish ideas that underline DEFRA's incompetence are exposed, DEFRA just pretend that it's someone else's fault.
