DEFRA - Garbage in, garbage out

It just makes no sense for DEFRA to write hundreds of new regulations to justify the introduction of a Michelin style star system for an industry that requires nothing more than a local authority licensing officer to issue licences.

DEFRA’s regulations are the absolute epitome of "garbage in, garbage out" because DEFRA called on the Canine & Feline Sector Group to advise them on our regulations - The CFSG have never offered any representatation to our sector because their board are controlled by a majority concern of charity lobbyists who know even less about providing accomodation for cats as any DEFRA bureaucrat.

  • There's no defence for broadening local authority powers or blaming licensing officers for DEFRA's mistakes.
  • It was DEFRA who passed the absurd responsibility of determining a star rating based on an unworkable set of regulations and onlly two standards.
  • It's DEFRA who wrote regulations with absolutely no insight or understanding of our industry.
  • And it's DEFRA who didn't consider that licencing officers would abuse their position, make up regulations or conduct inspections without spending the time to make any sense of a small novella that allowed licensing officers to close businesses and drive people out of this industry.

These DEFRA clowns didn’t have the basic understanding that imposing a one size fits all solution was beyond their abilities. DEFRA spent the past 3 years pretending that there have been no consequences and the loss of a third of the country’s boarding establishments was only a regrettable coincidence. But the objective reality is that non-universal, unenforceable and contradictory regulations aren’t anomalies, they’re the core of everything they wrote.

  • DEFRA can’t resolve issues because the only skills or practical knowledge they have is attuned to wasting time, wasting money, introducing inefficiency and piling up paperwork that is of no use, never read or required.
  • DEFRA know as much about improving animal welfare in Catteries as they do about keeping the River Avon free of raw sewage as they do about food or rural affairs - DEFRA bureaucrats are the poster children for endemic government culture of waste and incompetence.
  • DEFRA think that it’s their job to school catteries and kennels in how to run a business by imposing pointless red tape, increasing the costs without providing any benefits while replacing a third of their targeted industry with unlicensed and unregulated alternatives advertising on facebook.
