I can’t see why anyone should be paying taxes to keep an idiocracy like DEFRA in future pensions when they refuse to do their job today.

DEFRA have demonstrably destroyed the retirement plans and reduced the value of individual businesses across the country through their incompetence and then their wilful inaction.

DEFRA are a joke but their regulations are not.

A child with a box of crayons scrawling across walls would have had a better grasp of the objective and would have produced more focussed, cohesive and relevant regulations - and unlike DEFRA’s idiocrats, they’d do it for free could learn from thier mistakes and could be made to apologise for making them.

Prior to DEFRA’s takeover and destruction of our sector we had been inspected annually.

  • There is no data suggesting that there were any major problems in our sector and no data suggesting that our rgulations needed updating.
  • There is no data to suggest that the sector was in such bad shape or was rife with sub-par service or animal cruelty.
  • All of us could find hundreds of regular customers who wouldn’t use us if we didn’t provide a service that didn’t meet their approval.
  • Now that there are a third less boarding capacity spaces available there is over-subscription for every holiday period. Which means that there is now more demand than spaces available.

And so DEFRA’s interference in private businesses resulted in everyone being threatened with annual closure and the public are forced into the murky underworld and face the anxiety of letting strangers into their house and having to deal with an uninsured, unlicensed and unregulated businesses operating from social media.

DEFRA’s regulations were introduced without any consultation and enforcement was handed over to local authorities without providing local authorities with any effective training or guidance.

  • All the data shows that licensing officers don’t apply regulations consistently and can't rate the businesses accurately.
  • In the worst reported cases some local authority inspectors have overstepped the outer limits of their power by making up regulations.
  • Some have demanded massive financial inputs to rebuild and some have demanded increased staff numbers.
  • Some local authorities have closed businesses in Summer when there were no alternatives available and some people would have lost their holidays.
  • Some have threatened business owners and some inspectors have been so obnoxious and unprofessional that people have closed up and left the profession.
  • Some inspectors have suggested sexual relationships and some have closed viable and perfectly run businesses down on imaginary or even actual regulations.

None of which was reported under the previous regulations.
